Why do siblings (or other close relatives) stop visiting each other as they grow older? Why does this happen with so many people nowadays?

No idea why. We’ve lived in our home for 37 years. My brother and sister have never once visited us because they “don’t like to drive into the city”, so we’ve always visited them at their homes, which are an hour away and 2 hours away respectively. Last year my sister got miffed when I declined to drive up for a cookout and pointed out the the visiting was all in one direction. The last two times we spoke, I called her, have had no communication from her since.

I get along with my brother okay, but not with his wife, who was rude to our elderly mother multiple times and didn’t like it when I politely asked her to knock it off. I mean, who goes to an elderly person’s home for Christmas and tells her - when she tries to ask her daughter a question - “Betty! Ssssh! We’re talking!” My mom - who had done a lot for her kids and their families - wilted and sat in a corner. I went and sat next to her. Guess we’re a dysfunctional family, lol. I know that my sister, her husband, and my brother and his wife talk about me in the negative. I’m not sorry in the least that I stood up for our mom. Funny how siblings can come out of the same home and be as different as night and day.
